The Story of Us

In February 2025, Jaggehn and I started this 'social adventure' club in Malaysia. In our community, we have friends young and old, local and international, and from all walks of life. In just over 6 months, the club grew to over 600 members, and we aren't stopping here!

Our story

We love the outdoors, and being fit and healthy. Since our school days in Penang Free School, we've always been active in sports, be it during Pendidikan Jasmani (Physical Education) classes, Hari Sukan (Sports Day), co-curricular activties or just casual badminton sessions after class.

Sports has always been a big part of our growing-up years.

During the Chinese New Year of 2025, Jaggehn and I were both back home in Penang. We had just completed a marathon but we still wanted to run after that to maintain our stamina. One night, while replenishing calories at a quintessential Penang food joint, Nasi Kandar Beratur, the idea struck us: let's put our next run on Meetup to meet new friends.

And thus began Capy Crew, with our inaugural activity being a run around Gurney Bay. Our club went through many name revisions though, from The Social Run Club to The Social Adventure Club, and finally to Capy Crew. We wanted our club to be a platform for people to exercise and enjoy nature while chilling and socialising—the personification of a capybara!

Capy Crew moves to KL

We then brought our activities to KL, starting with runs at Bukit Jalil Park (our first event only had 3 people 😔). But we have always believed in consistency and resilience! And so we continued to hold runs there, and several other places. Over time, we built a loyal base of members who would join us for runs, and then stay on for dinner. We then expanded to other activities such as hiking, kayaking, cycling, as well as sports like badminton and pickleball, and many more.

What makes Capy Crew special is not just the variety of activities, but the people. We encourage members to become leaders themselves. Take Joyce, one of our younger members. She was shy at first, but has since grown into one of our most reliable hike leaders.

The idea behind Capy Crew is simple: Malaysia is blessed with incredible natural beauty, and we want to connect people through activities and social gatherings that build a healthier, friendlier, and environmentally-conscious community.

What's next?

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but the road ahead is even more exciting. Most of all, we wouldn’t be here without the incredible people who make up this community. We can’t wait to welcome many more like-minded friends into Capy Crew!
